Backspindle Games

'MOST WANTED' PROFILE
'The Backspindle Boys'

Name: David Brashaw
Known Aliases: David BraDshaw, Lu-Tze
Appearance: Monkish
Previous Crimes: Using counterfeit coinage (chocolate money) to incite unsuspecting convention-goers to riot
Wanted for: Unsolicited selfies with witches and dwarfs, occasional games

CRIMINAL PROFILE:
David believed in his friend Leonard Boyd’s board game Guards! Guards! from the very beginning, way back in the 1990’s when they had called it Morporkoly. As a very successful international karate competitor, David brought a certain determined spirit to trying to get the game published. Eventually, thanks to the support and assistance of the wonderful Mr Colin Smythe, and the generosity of the Creator himself, a licence to publish was acquired and Backspindle Games was formed in 2011 with the release of Guards! Guards!.
David loves having fun and creating opportunities for others have to have fun. He feels this is so important in their games. David’s serious love of Terry’s books goes back to 1989 while reading Pyramids on a bus on a soggy day in Belfast (well, it’s Belfast, what did you expect?). He was embarrassed after laughing out-loud three times when a chap behind him asked what he was reading and then agreed to start buying Discworld books.
Together with Leonard, the Backspindle boys have helped bring to life the magic of Sir Terry’s books at many Discworld Conventions through ‘Live Run-Around-The-Convention’ games of Guards! Guards! and in David’s 'Lu-Tze' Tai Chi classes.

Name: Leonard Boyd
Known Aliases: Leo, Leonard da Quirm
Appearance: Creative
Previous Crimes: Illicit Dice-Rolling and the unsolicited wearing of unsightly shorts in a built up area during the hours of daylight

CRIMINAL PROFILE:
Born in County Down, Northern Ireland, Leo Studied at the School of Print & Design in Belfast and has worked in the printing and publishing industry for over 30 years.
Back in 1980s whilst working as a freelance designer, Leo decided to combine two of his favourite pastimes - gaming and reading Discworld - by creating a board game, just for himself and his regular group of gaming pals to play. This was the very first draft of what was to become Guards! Guards! the Discworld Board Game. Eventually, after many years, lots of re-designs and the additional input and enthusiasm from long time friend David Brashaw the game became a reality.
In the few short years since then, Leo has continued designing, developing and publishing board games with David and in 2014 Backspindle Games won the UK Games EXPO ‘Best New Family Game Award’ for Luchador!, a game they had developed along with fellow games designer Mark Rivera.
Leo’s love of Sir pTerry’s books has always remained, and recently he and David have been working along with the very talented Ms Amber 'The Artful Nudger' Grundy to bring CLACKS, the latest Discworld offering from Backspindle Games into being.
